Bert Seager played the first-ever Jazz at The Green Room show, a wonderful duo performance with vocalist Rebecca Sullivan, in late 2013. I'm thrilled to have him back for JATGR #25 (?!) with his chamber-jazz quartet The Why. In addition to Bert's wonderful piano and compositions, The Why features cellist Catherine Bent, percussionist Brian O'Neill, and bassist Ehud Ettun.
Say Bert: "These instruments bring listeners into unexpected sonic landscapes not usually associated with improvised jazz. Combined in new ways with dance rhythms from many cultures, the music makes one wonder what Schubert would have sounded like had he lived in Peru and played odd meters, or if Ravel had lived in Ghana and had been able to improvise over chord changes...
