Boston, MA- The Berklee Global Jazz Institute proudly presents The Masters Speak Series featuring Danilo Perez on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 pm at David Friend Recital Hall. The event is located in The Uchida Building of Berklee College of Music, 921 Boylston Street, Boston.
The Masters Speak Series is an interactive, exclusive interview led by jazz radio legend Steve Schwartz. On November 26, Grammy Award winning pianist and composer Danilo Perez will be the featured guest.
The Grammy Award–winning pianist and composer Danilo Pérez is among the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time. In just over a decade, his distinctive blend of Pan-American jazz, covering the music of the Americas, folkloric, and world music, has attracted critical acclaim and loyal audiences. Whether leading his own ensembles or touring with renowned jazz masters (Wayne Shorter, Roy Haynes, Steve Lacy), Pérez is making a decidedly fresh imprint on contemporary music, guided, as always, by his love for jazz. Born in Panama in 1965, Pérez went to Berklee in the 1980s and has led his own groups since the early 1990s. As a bandleader, he has earned three Grammy nominations for his ebullient and innovative recordings. In present time, Danilo Perez serves as Unesco Artist For Peace and works towards the mission of finding new ways to building peace and sustainable development in the world. He also presides the Danilo perez Foundation which provides outreach music programs and scholarships to children of extreme poverty in the Republic of Panama, and serves as the Artistic Director for the Panama Jazz Festival, the biggest center of auditions, admissions and scholarships for Latin American music students and professionals to some of the best music schools of the Americas.
Interviewing Perez will be Boston based radio host Steve Schwartz. Born and raised in Boston, Schwartz has spent over 20 years in the field of radio, most notably at WGBH until 2012. Schwartz has interviewed George Garzone and Dave Liebman as part of the Masters Speak series and countless other jazz musicians throughout his career.
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute is proud to present The Masters Speak Series with Danilo Perez on November 26. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
