I'm delighted to present rising Brooklyn trombone player and composer Kalia Vandever in her first Boston-area appearance as a leader. She'll be joined by guitarist Lee Meadvin, bassist Nick Dunston, and drummer Connor Parks.

Vandever's May 2019 debut release "In Bloom" quickly caught the ear of critics. Giovanni Russonello (New York Times) wrote of the record's "slow and viscous" compositions that "dip you into a feeling or a pattern or a breathing speed, and keep you there." Seton Hawkins (Hot House Jazz Magazine) acknowledged that "We might not immediately nominate the trombone as the lead melody instrument in a jazz quartet. However, In Bloom... not only makes a compelling case for the format, it also documents the rise of an exciting new voice for the music."...
